

Professional Experience
Jim previously practiced law with Chattman, Gaines & Stern, L.P.A. for 25 years, where he served as a Managing Director and the Firm's Chief Financial Officer. He currently serves on Walter & Haverfield's Administrative Committee. His practice with Walter & Haverfield concentrates on representation of business owners of privately owned companies.
Areas Of Emphasis
- Jim is particularly experienced in assisting the entrepreneur in all aspects of business, including planning and formation, transactional matters, real estate matters, mergers and acquisitions, and transition of ownership and management. He considers himself a business consultant, as well as a legal advisor. He prides himself on his ability to guide his clients through the legal process with pragmatic and efficient solutions.
- Early in his career, Jim recognized that a business owner's most valued and important asset was the business itself, and that critical to comprehensive business counseling is a thorough understanding of estate planning and how business and estate planning interact. He is well-known for his skill in assisting owners of closely held businesses through the complex maze of issues relating to sale of their business and business succession planning.
