Professional Experience

Aimee is an associate of Walter & Haverfield LLP and a member of the Firm’s Municipal Law, Public Law and Education Law practice groups.  Aimee has considerable experience representing public entities, including cities, villages, townships and school boards and districts, in the areas of land use, planning and zoning, code enforcement, storm water management, including U.S. EPA and Ohio EPA mandates, public improvement projects, nuisance abatement, eminent domain, records retention, Ohio’s Sunshine Laws, election issues and more.

Prior to joining the Firm, Aimee gained municipal law experience through her work in a thriving outer ring suburb dealing with the issues of rapid residential and commercial development, including planning and zoning concerns, storm water management, code enforcement, codified ordinance revisions, administrative appeals and municipal litigation.  Aimee also worked with a smaller community committed to the redevelopment of its aging buildings and infrastructure and the preservation of its limited green space.

Areas of Emphasis

Planning & Zoning

Aimee’s main area of practice is land use, planning and zoning law.  She has drafted codified ordinance provisions and amendments for zoning codes, including sign regulations, storm water management and sediment control ordinances and riparian setback ordinances. 

Aimee is familiar with the municipal development plan and permit application process and has counseled public and private entities in appeals of decisions rendered by municipal boards, commissions and councils on requests for variances, permits and plan approvals.  She has also represented public and private entities in lawsuits challenging the constitutionality of local zoning regulations.

Aimee also has experience defending public entities in municipal tort liability lawsuits.     

Public Improvement Projects

Aimee has assisted local communities with public improvement projects including roadway construction, water and sewer line replacement and extension and public building construction and renovation.  She has been actively involved in a design-build construction project for the renovation of a municipal building. 

Nuisance Abatement

Aimee has successfully assisted public entities and private nonprofit organizations with the abatement of public nuisance conditions within their local communities through code enforcement actions, the issuance of condemnation orders and the initiation of receivership actions in municipal court.  

Education Law

In the area of education law, Aimee provides counseling on numerous issues including, records retention, public records and open meeting law, election issues, and the acquisition and disposition of school property.

Other

Aimee also represents private clients on a variety of matters, such as, home construction disputes, disputes regarding title to real property and real estate development projects.

Aimee enjoys the outdoors and is interested in environmental issues.  She currently serves on the Board of Supervisors for the Cuyahoga Soil and Water Conservation District.  The District is a political subdivision of the state which, in addition to numerous other responsibilities, provides technical assistance to local communities in the areas of storm water management and soil erosion and sediment control.  The District is also actively involved in public education programs designed to teach landowners about effective conservation practices that can be implemented in their own backyards.
