Super Lawyers

Jonathan is one of Walter & Haverfield’s most experienced trial attorneys. While he is most comfortable in the courtroom, he represents a broad range of business, municipal and private clients in all phases of the litigation process.

Business / Employment Litigation

Jon represents companies in breach of contract matters, corporate disputes, and employment-related litigation. He has successfully represented companies in multi-million dollar construction disputes, supply and requirement contract matters, as well as shareholder and closely-held corporate disputes. Jon has also successfully defended employers in race and gender discrimination, sexual harassment, wrongful termination and other employment-related trials. He received defense verdicts in trials raising ADA, FMLA and other employment issues and an employer’s right to hire independent employees from an asset-only purchase out of bankruptcy.

Municipal Representation

Jon is the Law Director and Prosecutor for the Village of Cuyahoga Heights, and he is the prosecutor for the cities of Pepper Pike and Richmond Heights. He was the founding President of the Northeast Ohio Municipal Prosecutors’ Association. He has served as special counsel to numerous municipalities for special prosecution and police matters, investigation of alleged Sunshine Law improprieties, and many employment-related issues.

Criminal Justice

Jon began his career as an Assistant Public Defender for Cuyahoga County. Jon represents the interests of people accused of making mistakes, as well as victims of criminal activity. Jon’s current defense work focuses on white collar defendants. Jon represents the individual. Realizing that defendants’ reputations may be their most valuable asset, Jon is acutely sensitive to the toll the criminal process takes on an individual defendant. He also represents victims in high value matters to help them quickly and efficiently receive restitution.

As a former part-time firefighter, and as an Adjunct Associate Professor of Trial Practice at his alma mater, Case Western Reserve University School of Law, Jon is involved in the community. He has received an AV Rating in Martindale-Hubbell, that is very high to preeminent in legal ability and very high in general ethical standards, the highest available ratings.
