Professional Experience

Bob has represented privately owned businesses, business owners and professionals in Northeast Ohio for over 35 years. In the early 1990’s, Bob developed a subspecialty in business transactions for clients in the technology, bioscience and health care industries and he has spent the last 11 years developing Walter & Haverfield’s Health Care Group which is now known as the Technology, Bioscience & Health Care Industry Services Section. This section, which Bob chairs, now has six lawyers who devote all their time to legal matters pertaining to clients in these industries and four additional lawyers who spend a substantial amount of time representing clients in these industries. Bob’s clients include professional medical practices, medical and life science product manufacturers and distributors, inventors of medical devices, developers of new technologies, ancillary medical service providers, ambulatory surgery centers and biomedical companies. Bob also has represented non-profit hospitals in Ohio, Iowa, Wisconsin and West Virginia on matters pertaining to tax-exempt organization and Medicare reimbursement planning as part of a consulting team organized by Amherst Associates, a national health care IT and consulting firm that later divided between HBO and Ernst & Young.

Representative Client Projects

• Represented two privately held Northeast Ohio businesses in the first half of 2005 in the acquisition of strategic businesses located outside of Cleveland.
  
  
• Represented management group in buyout of local life science division of multi-national health care products company.
  
  
• Represented owner of privately held diagnostics firm in sale of facilities located in three regional markets to national investment partnership.
  
  
• Represented manufacturers of specialized products in the development of supply and product license agreements for supply and license of those products to multi-national companies.
  
  
• Represented companies in development of distribution arrangements for various products.
  
  
• Represented group purchasing organizations, multi-specialty physician practices, and ancillary service providers in planning for conduct of activities so as to avoid implication of federal and state health care fraud and abuse laws and regulations.
  
  
• Represented limited license medical providers in obtaining non-discrimination treatment from insurance companies as to certain designated procedures.
