Manage the workforce & avoid significant liability

Every organization needs to be aware of the wide range of federal and state employment laws affecting its operations.  In order to properly manage the workforce and avoid significant liability, human resource professionals must possess a working knowledge of discrimination and harassment laws, FMLA, ADA, the Fair Labor Standards Act, HIPAA and affirmative action.  In addition to those well-established laws, this session will address the most recent developments in both state and federal law affecting employers, including the Ohio Smoke-Free Workplace Act, the Ohio Fair Minimum Wage Act, amendments to federal court rules that impact retention of electronic records and the status of legislation to give unions more rights to organize workers.

Conducted by Tom Herlevi, Owner and CEO of HR On Call, Inc., and Eric Johnson, a Partner with the law firm of Walter & Haverfield, the session will provide both a legal and practical perspective on these issues.  Therefore, in addition to discussing the scope of these laws, participants will learn how to identify real-life scenarios arising in the workplace that implicate these issues and how to best manage those situations lawfully and pragmatically.
