In the seven decades of existence of Walter & Haverfield LLP, the Internal Revenue Code has gone through countless changes. During that same time, state and local governments, faced with demands for increased services but less revenue sharing from the federal government, are beginning to take a much larger share of taxes for themselves. Individuals and business owners now find that the federal, state and local governments are their largest partners. There are few transactions that are not greatly affected by the tax considerations inherent in their structure.
The Walter & Haverfield Tax Group operates both as a stand-alone department and as an effective complement to our Business Group in analyzing and servicing the tax needs of all of our clients. As noted consultants on the diverse tax aspects of financial transactions, our tax group has generated scores of tax-saving ideas for our clients.
The main focus of our tax practice is on business and industry specific strategic income tax planning for closely held and family businesses, as well as some public companies. It also focuses on individual strategic income tax and wealth transfer planning for business owners and other high net worth individuals. As such, our Tax Group has vast expertise integrating not only the commercial and economic aspects of transactions, but also the ancillary implications in the areas of estate planning, employee benefits, qualified plans, and state and local taxes.
The lawyers in our Tax Group have decades of experience both on the legal and accounting side of these complex transactions. Members of the group are very widely published and are in demand locally and nationally as tax seminar speakers.
The services provided by our tax group include the following:
