Overview

Fred Englehart is senior counsel with Walter | Haverfield. His practice focuses primarily on labor law; however, he also has experience in employment law, benefits law, and education law. His expertise in labor law comes in part from a unique career path; Fred is a former union member and former business agent of a San Francisco Teamsters local from which he has a withdrawal card. He began his law career with Duvin, Cahn and Hutton where he was elected partner at his first eligibility. When Duvin Cahn merged with Littler Mendelson, Fred stayed on as a shareholder.

Prior to joining Walter | Haverfield, Fred was principal of his own firm representing clients in health care, manufacturing and the service sector in labor matters. During this time he lent his expertise and guidance to colleagues at Rolf, Goffman, Martin and Lang, LLP as that firm established its own labor law practice.

Over his long and distinguished career, Fred has earned an excellent reputation based on countless successes in labor law. He has significant experience in private-sector and public-sector collective bargaining, contract negotiation, arbitration, union avoidance, unfair labor practice (ULP) and representation cases, injunctions, work stoppage defense, State Employment Relations Board (SERB) matters, the Norris-LaGuardia Act and all aspects of the National Labor Relations Act (NLRA).

Fred provides hands-on support to both large and small companies in a mix of industries including health care, manufacturing, telecommunications, retail distribution and logistics. He provides service from initiation to completion: meeting with his clients to identify their existing and potential concerns, conducting legal research and due diligence, outlining risks and liabilities, representing clients at trial and agency hearings, and providing clients with a template to support their long-term labor relations strategies.
