Ken was born in Lorain and graduated from Ohio University cum laude in 1967. He earned his law degree from the University of Akron and was admitted to the Ohio bar in 1976, following five years of military service in Vietnam in the U.S. Air Force. He is a member of the Lorain County, Ohio, and American Bar Associations.

Ken served for over 20 years as the elected or appointed law director for the cities of Lorain, Amherst, and Vermilion, Ohio. As a result, he has extensive experience in every facet of public sector law.  Ken’s private sector practice focuses on business law with an emphasis in mergers and acquisitions.

Ken has represented school districts and other public-sector clients on multiple issues for over 35 years. He has extensive hands-on experience in many issues facing school districts, including operational issues, collective bargaining, discipline, student matters, teacher and administrator terminations, and construction law.


Education Law
  • Advises and assists in the implementation of reduction in force of administrators, teachers and classified staff;
  • Represents school districts in court proceedings and administrative agencies involving bidding disputes, contract enforcement, injunctive relief and appeals of arbitration awards.
  • Advises and consults with superintendents, treasurers and other administrators on daily operational matters including student suspensions, expulsions and child custody disputes.
Labor & Employment
  • Negotiations with teachers unions and classified employee organizations, including negotiations which resulted in the implementation of a last, best, and final offer after declaration of impasse;
  • Approximately 200 labor arbitration proceedings on multiple matters on diverse issues.
Public Law
  • Construction counsel on major Ohio School Facilities Commission and school district funded projects including the acquisition of real estate, contract negotiations with architects, construction managers and primary contractors.
