For more than three decades, Walter Haverfield Partner, Kenneth (Ken) Stumphauzer represented school districts and cities in Lorain County, Ohio, becoming a well-known, trusted leader in the community. Ken, 77, died on July 17, 2022 after an ongoing battle with cancer.

In addition to his work in the public sector, Ken also represented a variety of private sector clients in the Cleveland area, practicing business law with an emphasis in mergers and acquisitions.

Ken had extensive experience in every facet of public sector law, advising public officials on a range of legal issues ranging from labor and employment to construction matters. He served for more than two decades as the elected or appointed law director for the cities of Lorain, Amherst, and Vermillion, Ohio. While representing school districts, Ken counseled school administrators on operational issues, collective bargaining, discipline, student matters, and teacher and administrator terminations.

“We are extremely thankful for nearly 10 years with Ken at Walter Haverfield,” said Ralph Cascarilla, managing partner of Walter Haverfield. “Not only was he a talented attorney who built longtime relationships with his Lorain County clients, but he was also a kind, devoted colleague, father, and husband. We will miss him dearly.”

A native of Lorain County, Ken graduated from Ohio University and earned his law degree from the University of Akron. Following five years of military service in Vietnam in the U.S. Air Force, Ken was admitted to the Ohio bar in 1976.

Ken was a member of the Lorain County, Ohio, and American Bar Associations.
