Labor & Employment Services

Walter | Haverfield’s labor and employment attorneys are well-versed in federal and state employment law, workers’ compensation, union issues, and ERISA.  We work closely with the firm’s public law, education law, and litigation practice groups to allow our employer clients access to any type of representation relative to their workplace: public or private sector, negotiation or litigation.
Proper management of the workforce is essential to our clients' success. Our attorneys work to achieve that end, counseling employers on Title VII, ADA, ADEA, FMLA, OSHA, FLSA, and WARN, as well as state employment laws. We draft policies and procedures to assist our clients in the day-to-day management of the employment relationship. We are experienced in the defense of discrimination claims before the EEOC, OCRC, and the Department of Labor, helping our clients avoid the cost and uncertainty of litigation. When litigation cannot be avoided, we provide aggressive yet cost-effective defense, developing cost and risk determinations at each step of the process so our clients can make the best decision for their businesses.
We counsel our non-unionized clients to develop employment practices and respond aggressively to any union's attempt to organize their workforces. We work with our unionized clients to conduct cost-effective, productive collective bargaining unit negotiations and effectively administer the resulting collective bargaining agreements. We provide representation to employers in arbitration proceedings and in defense of claims before SERB and the NLRB.
Workers’ Compensation
Walter | Haverfield's workers’ compensation attorneys represent both self-insured and state-funded insured clients. We appear on behalf of employers at the administrative level (OIC) and in courts of common pleas if an appeal is necessary after the administrative process has been exhausted.
